Cruising through the Aegean

Hi Guys,

We are in the middle of our cruise, actually in Rhodes today, and thought we should do a post for you all.

Our cruise is going great. The first night we stayed in Athens in a hotel before we boarded the ship. The hotel even had a bath tub. We were so excited we both took long, hot, much needed baths. We have only had showers (mostly cold) since we have been travelling.

Our first day on the ship we went to Mykonos. It was very beautiful. All of the houses were white washed and most had blue shutters. White washing is done 3 times a year and if you dont want blue shutters on your house you have to pay a sort of fine. Most houses thus keep the blue shutters. They were white washed in an effort to confuse pirates when they were coming to shore and trying to loot the town. The town is also laid out in a manner that is meant to be confusing, a maze of sorts. Of additional interest to some of those reading, like John B., Mykonos is the gay capital of Greece....LOL. Just kidding John. But it is the gay capital. Lots of good looking well groomed men.

The next day we went to Patmos in the morning. We took a hike and saw the grotto where Saint John wrote the Book of Revelations. We then hiked higher to a monastary that overlooks the island. It was built in 1088AD. It was different than anything we had seen, very neat.

In the afternoon we went to Kusadasi, Turkey. It was a beautiful city and we thought it was great even though it was raining. We took a bus up to the ancient ruins of Ephesus which is the best preserved ancient city in Turkey. We kinda raced through it because of the rain but it was still amazing. Much of the city has been discovered but it is estimated it will still be another 100 years until excavation is complete.

Today we are in Rhodes and still need to look around some more. It is really unique as compared to our other stops in that the old city is so well preserved.

Tomorrow we go to Crete and Santorini and arrive in Athens on Friday, so we should be able to write some more then. Until then, here are some pics.

Miss you all,
Lance and Amy
PS. Lance says "GO SENS"
PPS. Amy says, "Yawn".
This was a washroom at Ephesus. It is a little hard to read but it says "Only 50 cents is enough to feel the magic atmosphere". I felt it.
Awesome.
Grand Masters Palace in Rhodes.
View from the monastary in Patmos. We hiked up in the morning and Amy sweat out half of her body weight.
Styling in Ephesus.
Contemplating in Ephesus. Lance's deep thought of the day: Hot dogs are the best.
Ephesus...in the back you can see the old entrance to the library which was the 3rd largest in the ancient world.
This was the original marble flooring which covered the main street in Ephesus. Adorning the street is a precious and beautiful Canadian, with a hunch back.

Contemplating in Athens. Lance's deep thought of the day: Hamburgers are the best.
Mykonos
Amy sporting the Canadian colours of white and red.
Lance didnt know I was taking this pic and it is one of my favourites. He is contemplating. Lance's deep thought of the day: Beer is by far the best.

Wow. Looks like it was really pissing rain there...was it a cold rain? 50 cents to feel the magic atmosphere...hilarious. I have no doubts you felt the magic... probably a few times. Did you get me one of those genuine fake watches? Have you guys been keeping to yourselves or have you met other people along the way? Nothing new to report here...May long weekend came and went with the usual, sun, snow and rain. Stupid campers. I have been working my tail off trying not to think about how much I miss you. What they say is true, you don't know what you've got till it is galavanting around Europe having the time of their lives...sigh.

Hugs and kisses.

Oh, I know it hurts now Brian, but look at the bright side, you have some new material for that novel you’ve been writing. You know, the…the novel you’ve been working on.

You know, the…the one, uh, you been working on for three years. You know, the…the novel. Mm, got something new to write about now. You know, maybe…uh, maybe a main character gets into a relationship, suffers a little heart break. Something like uh, what…what you been, you just been through. Draw from the real life experience. Little uh, little heart break. You know…work it into the story. Make those characters a little more three dimensional. Little, uh, richer experience for the reader. Make those second hundred pages really keep the reader guessing, what’s going to happen. Some twists and turns. Little epilogue, everybody learns the hero’s journey isn’t always a happy one.

Oh, I look forward to reading it.
